Buena Vista police responded to reports of gunfire related to a domestic violence incident on New Year’s Eve, according to a statement from Police Chief Dan Morgan.
Officers were dispatched to the Super 8 Motel, where they spoke with a woman who reported a domestic dispute involving 27-year-old Nicholas Pritt, a visitor from Colorado’s Front Range. Police allege that Pritt had been drinking heavily and fired a single round from a pistol into his own vehicle during the incident.
The Buena Vista Police Department, assisted by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, established a perimeter around the area and deployed a drone in an attempt to locate Pritt. However, officers were unable to find him and believe he fled the scene before the perimeter was fully established.
Due to the potential danger, a reverse 911 alert was issued to residents in the surrounding area to warn them of the situation.
An arrest warrant has since been issued for Pritt. He faces charges including prohibited use of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and obstruction of a peace officer. The investigation remains ongoing.
