Buena Vista Adds $32,000 to Emergency Response Fund

The Buena Vista Trustees moved unanimously to contribute $32,000 to the Chaffee County Emergency Response Fund.

During a regular trustee meeting on Tuesday, March 24th, the Buena Vista Trustees moved unanimously to contribute $32,000 to the Chaffee County Emergency Response Fund (ERF) in partnership with the Chaffee County Community Foundation (CCCF) and Chaffee County Department of Human Services (DHS). This challenge grant opportunity matches any charitable donation from the community and is anticipated to raise more than $200,000 for community assistance. The process is now live and ready! To find out if they are eligible, individuals and households with financial need related to COVID-19 should call (719) 530-2500 to ask for help. If the DHS cannot provide state or federal resources, it will automatically refer those applications directly to CCCF for processing through the ERF. If you or anyone you know lost a job, had hours cut, or have other needs brought on by the novel coronavirus, please reach out the DHS today.

CCCF is also offering direct assistance to nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits that either have a creative solution to a COVID-19 related community need OR are themselves adversely impacted financially due to the virus can apply for assistance to CCCF at: https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=ccgrants.

Update on Town Services

The Town of Buena Vista’s core services including emergency services, water department, streets department, parks department, airport and town hall functions continue to operate. Town has extended its facilities’ closure to the public until April 15 with a potential additional extension beyond that date, depending on the course of events. Buena Vista Mayor Duff Lacy says, “In this time of questions, keep others in our thoughts. Many are overwhelmed and can use our support. ‘Thank you,’ ‘you’re welcome,’ and ‘how are you?’ will go a long way. Make our presence be known, both physically and mentally. Be that person that makes a difference.”

Information and Support

The Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Corporation (EDC) are working on a Resource Guide that will be deployed through the Chambers, local municipalities, and through the business license email groups for BV and Salida and the greater Chaffee County area. Be sure to visit the Chamber page for the latest business support news – www.buenavistacolorado.org

During this pandemic, many people have questions on how to volunteer, how to learn about local and state mandates, how to take care of themselves, and so forth. We’re grateful to the churches and other local groups that are already involved to help individuals and families during this time. Town has been putting information online about these services and other COVID-19 related information: buenavistaco.gov/2605/COVID-19. This information is not an exhaustive resource and we will add other sources as best we can.
