Salida, CO – Barry Morphew, the man accused of killing his wife and leaving her body in a remote area of the San Luis Valley, is expected to face trial next summer, according to statements made during a court hearing this week.
At a brief hearing held yesterday, Morphew’s attorney told the court that the defense team is still reviewing the evidence that prosecutors plan to present at trial. He said he expects to be ready for Morphew’s arraignment and plea entry by mid-January.
Judge Amanda Hopkins also issued several rulings designed to limit pre-trial publicity. Among them: only credentialed members of the media will be permitted to view live-streamed court hearings as the case moves forward.
The court is expected to set a formal trial date once arraignment proceedings are complete.
