The defense team for Barry Morphew, the man accused of killing his wife Suzanne Morphew, has filed more than 30 motions over the past month as the case moves closer to trial.
Barry Morphew is charged with murder in the death of Suzanne Morphew, who was reported missing from the couple’s home in Maysville in May 2020. Suzanne’s remains were later discovered in September 2023 in a remote area of Saguache County.
During a status conference yesterday, the judge noted that the defense had filed 31 separate motions. Among the requests, defense attorneys are asking the court to exclude testimony regarding Barry Morphew’s mental health or credibility. The defense also wants to prevent witnesses from offering opinions that Morphew “looked guilty,” “looked untruthful,” or “looked suspicious.”
Additionally, the defense is seeking to block statements attributed to Suzanne Morphew from being presented during trial proceedings.
District Attorney Anne Kelly said prosecutors plan to file responses to many of the defense motions.
Barry Morphew is scheduled to return to court on June 24.
