Barry Morphew, the man accused of murdering his wife Suzanne, appeared in Alamosa County Court today as his defense team presented several motions.
Morphew’s attorneys are seeking to reduce his bond from $3 million to $500,000, arguing he is not a flight risk and should be allowed to return to work as a landscaper and care for his elderly mother. They also requested that he be permitted to wear regular clothing in court and appear without visible restraints.
In a victim impact statement, Suzanne’s brother called Morphew a “serial psychopathic controller” and urged the court to keep the higher bond, saying he remains a flight risk.
Morphew was first charged in 2021, but that case was dismissed. New evidence—including the alleged discovery of an animal tranquilizer in Suzanne’s remains—has led to this second trial.
