In a recent Facebook post, the Colorado Department of Transportation has announced CO 325  just north of Rifle is closed due to a “large sink hole” in the northbound lane.

The official tweet below originally identified this as a “large sink hole.” It has since been referred to as a “bank failure.”

The road embankment, located between mile marker 7 and 8, collapsed Friday (July 12) destroying part of State Highway 325 near the Rifle Gap reservoir. Reports are estimating the bank failure at 200 feet long by 8 feet wide.

CO 325 is closed to all but local traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid this road and expect delays. Currently, CDOT engineering teams are on-site accessing damage and reconstruction plans.
