The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is reporting for today that while sunny skies may make it appealing to head into the high country, recent storms have created dangerous conditions in the Southern and Central Mountains.
The main concern they reported today, is steep alpine slopes where new snow may be sitting on older, weaker layers. The Center recommends that if you’re heading into the backcountry, stick to lower-angle terrain away from steep slopes and avalanche runouts. Be especially cautious in gaining elevation where snow conditions and avalanche danger can change quickly.
