Ark Valley Publishing Newspapers Won 14 Press Association Awards

Ark Valley Publishing newspapers won a total of five first-place and nine second-place awards in the 2019 Colorado Press Association News Media Contest. 

Awards were given in a variety of categories including advertising, editorial and photography. 

The Mountain Mail won for best editorial for Paul Goetz’s “Salute to Our Heroes Veterans Day Special,” Best Feature story for Cody Olivas’ “So Much like Mars, NASA uses drones for testing,” and Best sports photograph for Cody Olivas’ “Bull turns rider upside down.”

The Chaffee County Times won first place for Renee Graner’s sports photo “Cowboy Protection.”

The Herald Democrat won first for Best editorial writing: “On the Mendoza sentencing: Doing the right thing” by Marcia Martinek.
