Ark-Valley Humane Society Kicks Off February ‘Shelter Together’ Matching Campaign

During the month of February, the Ark Valley Humane Society is hosting a new matching campaign to benefit unsheltered community members and their pets.

Called the “Shelter Together” Matching Campaign, AVHS is partnering with Chaffee County Hospitality to help provide temporary housing solutions in the form of overnight motel room stays during the cold winter months. Ark Valley Humane hopes to raise $9,000 for this campaign. Every dollar donated will be matched by Greg and Ruth Phillips, Bill and Junia Fitzgerald, and Judy Hamontre, up to $4,500.

With this campaign, both CCH and AVHS will each cover 50% of the costs of an overnight motel room stay. While our community offers winter shelters for those experiencing homelessness, limitations currently in place do not allow for pets.

Last year, CCH provided 111 nights in motel rooms to unsheltered families who have pets, and the Ark-Valley Humane Society hopes to be able to provide even more overnight motel room stays this year with our partnership, as the need for this program far exceeds existing funding.

When donating, make sure to mark ‘Shelter Together Matching Campaign’ or note this in the memo line of your check. Donations can be made online at ark-valley.org/donate/ or mailed to AVHS, PO Box 1335, in Buena Vista, CO 81211.
