A leaking drain valve has slowed the process of cooling down the temperature of the lap pool at the Aquatics Center.
After a recent maintenance shutdown, the pool was refilled using hot springs water and has been gradually cooling toward its normal operating temperature. Because of the drain leak, new hot water is added periodically to keep the pool levels safe and this extends the amount of time it takes the pool to cool.
The drain leak will be prepared as part of the pool liner replacement project, which is tentatively planned for February. Staff expects the lap pool temperature to reach a goal temperature of approximately 82.3 degrees within the next several days and will work to maintain it at that level moving forward.
The Aquatics staff would also like to clarify that the current temperature issue is unrelated to the recently installed pool benches.
Anissa Caiazza, Recreation and Aquatics Manager said, “Our team continues to monitor conditions daily and make adjustments as needed to maintain a safe and enjoyable experience for swimmers.”
