A Reminder to be Bear Aware

I had my own bear encounter last night at my home in Poncha Springs! A bear knocked over my trash cans and scared the hell out of me.

I admit, I wasn’t being very “bear aware.” I had left my trash cans out with the lids unsecured, and my garage doors open.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds residents to avoid situations that attract bears. Residents should keep food out of cars and lock ground floor windows and doors in homes and garages. Pet food should be brought inside. Trash cans should have lids secured, or stored inside whenever possible.
