An autopsy has been conducted to determine the cause of death of 19-year-old Kaden Matsuda and 20-year-old Jackson Donlon, the two Colorado Mountain College students from the Leadville campus who were recovered from a basin of West Apostle Mountain in Chaffee County on October 29th.

The autopsy showed that the cause of their deaths was multiple blunt force injuries. Their deaths were instant.

The investigation into the incident showed that Jackson began to repel from a primary anchor. Kaden was attached via his personal anchor device to the same anchor. The anchor had a catastrophic failure and both fell a substantial distance. It is not known if the heavy snowstorm had a negative impact leading up to the incident.
