The cleanup begins today after historic flooding in southern Colorado. The flooding has swamped homes, washed out roads and toppled RVs as the San Juan River surged to levels not seen in more than a century. The last time the San Juan reached these kinds of levels was in 1911.
Some evacuations have been lifted in Pagosa Springs. Highway 160 is back open between Pagosa and Durango. While conditions are improving, Pagosa Springs officials say the town will continue monitoring the situation.
Heavy rainfall over the weekend led to flooding in Archuleta County. Governor Jared Polis has expanded a flood disaster emergency to 12 counties in southwestern Colorado.
Many roads and highways have been damaged by the flooding. Drivers can check cotrip.org for current road conditions and closures.
The Community Foundation serving southwest Colorado has activated the Community Emergency Relief Fund to assist the Town of Pagosa Springs and surrounding areas. Individuals who want to support the community are encouraged to donate to the fund: https://cfssc.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=3839
