Donna Jean McClure, 97, formally of Salida, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, at Pathways Hospice Facility in Fort Collins.

Donna was born on February 2, 1929, in Walsenburg, Colorado to Richard and Deborah Abe. After High School she attended Adams State College where she met her husband, Clifford McClure. They were married on August 31, 1947, and made their home in Salida. Donna finished college and received both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Western State College.

She began her teaching career in 1957. During her career as a teacher, she taught Kindergarten and Fourth Grade at Longfellow Elementary and moved on to Salida High School to teach Freshman English. Her last position at Salida High School before retirement was teaching Typing and Business Classes. She retired from teaching in 1987 but continued as a substitute teacher for several years after retirement. If you went to school in Salida then, you more than likely had her as a teacher at some point during your school years.

She led a very active life, even in retirement. She was an avid golfer and loved bowling and read often. Donna enjoyed playing cards, singing in the church choir, and working in the yard. She loved taking the bus to Cripple Creek to gamble in the Casino, but her favorite part of those trips was visiting with her many friends. Her family was very important to her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Deborah Abe, her sister Shirley Aspegren, her brother Ronald Abe, her nephew Gary Abe, her niece Debbie Abe, and her beloved husband Cliff McClure.

She is survived by her son Rick McClure, granddaughter Alicia McClure (David Vancil), great grandson Jaykob McCuiston, Nephews Drew (Sandra) Aspegren, Richard Aspen, & James McClure, Niece Laurie (Ted) Clemens, and several great nieces and nephews.

Mass Services will be held on Friday October 23rd, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salida at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In care of Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
