The Colorado State Patrol(CSP) has released the names of the two troopers who were injured following a shooting in Teller County on Tuesday. They are Clark Tinan, who has been with CSP for 10 years, and Skyler Hoehn, a trooper for 15 years.
Tinan was released from the hospital Tuesday evening. Hoehn suffered serious injuries and is still in the hospital, but is said to be doing well.
The shooting prompted a massive law enforcement presence on Tuesday after the suspect fired at a trooper who pulled him over and shot another trooper who drove past him a short time later, according to law enforcement officials. The shooting happened on Highway 24 southwest of Woodland Park. The suspect was shot and killed after a brief foot chase.
The Teller County Coroner identified the suspect as 51-year-old Robert Richards Jr. of Loveland. According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, officials have not answered whether Richards was previously known to law enforcement or what prompted him to be pulled over on U.S. 24. Colorado court records show he had an uncleared warrant for his arrest issued on March 30 in Arapahoe County after he failed to appear at his bond hearing for allegedly violating a protection order the month prior.
