There are plenty of ways to enjoy the weekend across Chaffee County with festivals, markets, live entertainment, and family activities.
Chaffee County is kicking off the nation’s 250th birthday celebration with two free drone light shows. The first takes place Saturday at the Buena Vista Drone Park, followed by a second show Sunday at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. Activities begin at 2 p.m. both days, with the drone light shows starting at approximately 9:15 p.m. The American Legion posts in Salida and Buena Vista are hosting the events. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. No dogs, outside alcohol, coolers, or campaigning will be allowed.
Salida Arts and Culture hosts the third annual Salida Chalk Fest on Saturday. Artists will transform the streets of downtown Salida into a colorful outdoor gallery by creating large-scale chalk murals.
The Salida Wine Festival takes place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Riverside Park. More than 20 Colorado wineries will be featured along with live music and food trucks. Proceeds benefit The Alliance.
Ark Valley Humane Society continues its annual free Microchip and Pet ID Tag Clinic through Sunday at its Buena Vista shelter on Gregg Drive. Free microchips for cats and dogs and engraved pet ID tags are available. Pet owners should bring cats in secure carriers and dogs on leashes. Upon arrival, leave pets in your vehicle and check in at the front desk before completing paperwork.
Farm to Table and Brew and Bloom Coffee are partnering for a plant sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in Salida. Plants, including tomatoes, dahlias, geraniums, and blanket flowers, will be available for $5 each. Proceeds benefit Achieve Incorporated’s mentorship-based job skills program for neurodivergent community members.
The Salida Farmers Market returns Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Alpine Park, featuring locally grown food, handmade crafts, and live music.
On Sunday, Buena Vista Heritage hosts its Farmers Market, including a Kids’ Market, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Turner Farm and Apple Orchard.
Just over the hill in Cripple Creek, Donkey Derby Days returns this weekend with food trucks, live music, the famous donkey races, and family activities. Admission is free throughout the weekend.
