Construction is officially underway on the South Ark Neighborhood infrastructure project, marking a significant step toward expanding workforce housing opportunities and improving critical infrastructure in Salida.
City officials say that access to nearby open space areas will be temporarily closed during construction due to the presence of heavy equipment and open trenches. The temporary closures are intended to protect both construction workers and the public.
The city says all affected areas will be fully restored once construction is completed, and additional trail improvements are planned as part of the project.
The disc golf course will remain open and accessible for most of the construction period through an access point off County Road 104.
The project is being funded through a combination of state grants, local partnerships, and city resources. The City of Salida received two $2 million grants from the state to help support the development. Additionally, Chaffee County and Colorado Mountain College have each committed up to $1 million toward the project.
The City of Salida has also contributed $1.25 million from its Housing Fund, which is financed through lodging tax revenues.
City leaders say the investment will help address local housing needs while laying the groundwork for future community growth.
