Motorists should plan for several ongoing road construction projects and traffic impacts throughout the region this week.

Highway 69 Resurfacing Project

Resurfacing work continues on Colorado State Highway 69 between Hillside and Texas Creek. Construction is taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic is reduced to a single lane with alternating directions, and delays of up to 15 minutes should be expected.

Highway 50 Sewer Infrastructure Project

The Salida has begun a multi-year infrastructure project to increase the capacity of the sewer main connecting Salida and Poncha Springs.

Initial work is underway near County Road 111 across from Walmart and continues west along U.S. Highway 50. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction in the construction zone. Officials say access to homes and businesses along Highway 50 will be maintained throughout the project.

Highway 24 Resurfacing Near Buena Vista

The Colorado Department of Transportation has started a resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 24 north of Buena Vista.

Drivers should expect alternating traffic patterns and delays of up to 15 minutes through the project’s completion in September. The work will improve approximately nine miles of highway between Mountain View Drive and Granite.

A separate resurfacing project is also underway on Highway 24 between Leadville and Minturn.

Highway 291 Closure in Salida

Colorado State Highway 291 remains fully closed between 3rd Street and M Street in Salida as utility and roadway improvements are completed.

The closure is expected to remain in place for most of the summer. Detours have been established via Mesa Lane, Crestone Avenue, and M Street.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use caution when traveling through active work zones.
