Beginning today, Highway 291 will be fully closed between 3rd Street and M Street for most of the summer as crews complete utility and surface improvement work in the area.
Detours have been established to help direct traffic around the construction zone, Motorists will detour via Mesa Lane, Crestone Avenue and M Street. Local residences, businesses and Parks within the closure limits will remain accessible, although alley access may be required. Access to the N Street entrance to Marvin Park Ball Fields will be maintained. Pedestrians are advised to use the Monarch Spur Trail to avoid the work zone. See map below for additional details.
Improvements include:
• Underground utility upgrades – replacing aging water and sewer infrastructure with modernized systems to improve reliability and reduce future maintenance needs
• Surface improvements including new sidewalks for improved pedestrian access, dedicated bike lanes, new curb and gutter and storm sewer upgrades to improve drainage and reduce roadway flooding concerns.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use caution while traveling through designated detour routes during the construction period.
