Chaffee County Road and Bridge Department plans to reopen Cottonwood Pass for the summer season this Thursday.
Working alongside Gunnison County Public Works, crews anticipate the pass will be cleared on both sides of the county line by 5 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting.
Cottonwood Pass crosses the Continental Divide at an elevation of 12,120 feet, connecting Chaffee and Gunnison counties via Chaffee County Road 306. Approximately half a million vehicles travel over the pass each year.
The pass is typically closed from early October through mid-May because of heavy snowfall and winter driving conditions.
