Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area and the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association are hosting the 35th annual “Clean Up Green Up” event tomorrow in conjunction with Colorado Public Lands Day.
Volunteers will help clean trash and debris along sections of the Arkansas River between Hayden Meadows and Parkdale in preparation for the busy summer recreation season. Participants can preselect cleanup locations online or register in person on the day of the event.
Two volunteer check-in stations will be open tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Riverside Park and the Buena Vista Community Center. Volunteers will receive trash bags and gloves.
Trash drop-off locations will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at the F Street parking lot in Salida and at the Buena Vista Community Center. A volunteer picnic will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside Park in Salida.
In conjunction with the cleanup effort, AHRA will also host the 4th annual “Gear Up for Summer” event from 10 a.m. to noon at Riverside Park. Organizers say the first 50 youth attendees will receive a free personal flotation device, or PFD.
