Residents across Chaffee County will find a full weekend of community events, live entertainment, art, fitness and family activities taking place in both Salida and Buena Vista.
The Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce is hosting Business After Hours tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Golf Cabin Bar and Grill. The networking event will include a taco bar and drinks, all included with the $10 admission fee.
Also tonight, the Salida Council for the Arts will open its 14th annual Valley Visions Art Showcase at the Salida SteamPlant. The evening includes a welcome reception along with presentations for show winners, high school scholarships and the Mel Strawn Award. The showcase will remain open through Sunday.
Music fans can also head to the SteamPlant theater tonight for a benefit concert supporting Salida Mountain Trails. The concert will feature the band Roundhouse Assembly beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $40 at the door.
Saturday morning, the Buena Vista School District will present the Celebration of Moms 5K and Family Fun Run beginning at 10 a.m. Activities including crafts, snacks and family events will follow at McGinnis Gym.
Also Saturday, the grand opening of Brew and Bloom will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new coffee shop is located at Jane’s Place near 3rd Street and Highway 291 in Salida. Operated as a social enterprise under Achieve, Inc., Brew and Bloom provides paid work experience opportunities for neurodivergent youth and young adults. The celebration will feature live music and gift card drawings.
Residents are also encouraged to participate Saturday in the National Association of Letter Carriers annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive. Postal customers can leave nonperishable food donations in a bag next to their mailbox for pickup by local letter carriers. Donations will support area food pantries.
To wrap up the weekend, the Salida Aquatic Center will offer free admission for mothers on Sunday in recognition of Mother’s Day.
