The Salida Police Department is alerting the public after receiving multiple complaints about suspicious and potentially fraudulent emails appearing to come from Police Chief Russ Johnson.
According to the department, the emails may include encrypted links and other credentials designed to make them appear legitimate and as though they were sent directly by Chief Johnson.
Officials stress that these emails did not originate from the Salida Police Department and should not be opened. Residents are urged to avoid clicking on any links, downloading attachments, or responding to the messages.
The department is encouraging anyone who receives one of these emails to delete it immediately and remain cautious of unexpected messages requesting information or prompting users to open links.
Police officials continue to investigate the issue and remind the community to stay vigilant against online scams and impersonation attempts.
