One of the owners of the Penrose funeral home where nearly 200 bodies were discovered improperly stored in 2023 is scheduled to be sentenced on state charges today.
Carie Hallford and her husband, Jon Hallford, were arrested after authorities uncovered the remains at their facility, a case that drew national attention.
Carie Hallford is facing a possible sentence of 25 to 35 years in prison. Earlier this year, in March, she was sentenced to 18 years in a separate federal case.
Jon Hallford has already been sentenced to 40 years in prison on state charges. That sentence will be served concurrently with his 20-year federal sentence.
The case stems from the shocking discovery of improperly stored bodies at the Penrose funeral home, prompting multiple investigations at both the state and federal levels.
