Highway 115 remains closed as crews continue battling the 24 Fire, which is burning on Fort Carson land in Fremont County. The wildfire has grown to approximately 7,400 acres and was reported to be 44% contained as of last night.

Investigators have determined that the fire was sparked by a vehicle malfunction along Highway 115.

Meanwhile, a second wildfire—now named the Turkey Fire—was reported yesterday about 10 miles northeast of Walsenburg. That fire has burned more than 600 acres and is currently 80% contained.

Fire danger across the region remains high. A Red Flag Warning is still in effect due to strong winds and low humidity, and officials are reminding residents that outdoor burning is strictly prohibited.

In addition to fire risks, unusually warm temperatures are causing rattlesnakes to emerge from hibernation earlier than usual. Wildlife officials advise hikers to stay alert, watch their surroundings, and keep dogs on a leash while on trails.
