BUENA VISTA, CO — This summer, Chaffee County is turning landmarks into a
weeklong legacy. The Sons of the American Legion Squadron #55, in partnership with
local leaders, is proud to announce a premier celebration honoring the 250th
anniversary of the United States, the 150th anniversary of Colorado’s statehood, and
the 50th anniversary of the Chaffee County Fire Department.
In response to a dry winter and the high probability of summer fire restrictions,
organizers are pivoting from traditional pyrotechnics to cutting-edge technology. To
ensure a safe yet breathtaking experience for residents and tourists alike, the festivities
will kick off with two massive professional drone light shows.

Kickoff Event Schedule:
● Saturday, June 27: Fair and Drone Show in Buena Vista.
● Sunday, June 28: Drone Show at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds in Poncha
Springs.

“This is a vital year for our community,” says a representative of Squadron #55. “By
utilizing drones, we are able to honor our nation, our state, and our local fire heroes in a
way that respects our environment and the safety of our county during a dry season.”
The June kickoff marks the beginning of a weeklong celebration designed to bring
Chaffee County together to reflect on these historic milestones.
