As Coloradans ring in the new year, the Colorado Department of Transportation is urging motorists to plan ahead for a safe and sober ride home.

The Colorado State Patrol, along with local law enforcement agencies, is participating in The Heat Is On New Year’s DUI enforcement period. During the campaign, drivers can expect increased enforcement efforts, including saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the weekend.

Officials say the heightened enforcement is aimed at reducing impaired driving and keeping roads safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. CDOT encourages anyone who plans to drink or use impairing substances to arrange a designated driver, use ride-sharing services, or make other transportation plans before heading out.

Motorists are also reminded to remain alert, obey traffic laws, and watch for other drivers who may be impaired.
