Chaffee County is packed with activities this weekend, offering residents and visitors plenty of ways to celebrate the season.
The Noteables Women’s Chorus will present their winter concert, “We Are the Lights,” at the Salida SteamPlant tonight at 7pm, A Sunday matinee performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. Admission is a suggested $15 donation.
The Daughters of the American Revolution will host Wreaths Across America ceremonies today to honor veterans. Wreath placement begins at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, followed by Western Fremont cemeteries starting at 10:45 a.m. at Howard Cemetery and continuing to Coaldale, Cotopaxi, and Hillside cemeteries. The public is welcome to attend.
Shoppers can stop by the Chaffee County Winter Farmers Market today at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 35 vendors will offer produce, baked goods, gifts, and other local goods.
Also today, a Holiday Pop-Up Art Market will be held at the SteamPlant from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market will feature more than 20 artists, and admission is free.
Holiday festivities continue with the Cripple Creek Christmas Parade, themed “Gold Camp Country Christmas.” The parade begins at noon, traveling up Bennett Avenue from 5th Street and ending at The Aspen Mine Center.
The Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce is inviting families to get photos with Santa Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Golf Cabin Bar and Grill in Salida. Pets are welcome, and attendees can bring their own camera or have the chamber take a photo.
Art lovers can also check out Monarch Mountain’s 5th annual Snowboard Art Show, featuring more than 30 artist-designed snowboards. The collaboration with the Salida Council for the Arts transforms retired snowboards into one-of-a-kind artworks. All pieces are available for purchase, with 10 percent of each sale benefiting the Salida Council for the Arts and the remainder going to the artists.
The opening reception will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Elmo’s Bar at Monarch, where guests can meet the artists and view the collection. The exhibit will remain on display at Monarch Mountain throughout the season.
