The Pike and San Isabel National Forests, in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management, are gearing up for a series of prescribed pile burns set to take place throughout the winter. Officials say the operations, which help reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health, are expected to continue through March.

Fire managers plan to conduct burns across multiple areas in Park, Lake, Custer, and Teller counties. Additional operations are also scheduled near Marshall Pass and at the Cleveland Mountain pile sites, located about three miles south of Poncha Springs.

Officials note that prescribed burns are carefully monitored and conducted only under favorable weather conditions to ensure public safety and effectiveness.
