The Salida Police Department says a man has been arrested after a couple woke to find him inside their home, rummaging through belongings and staring at the woman as she slept.
Police say the incident happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 3rd. The couple, who live in the home with their infant child, reported that the suspect was confronted by the man of the house and forced out the front door. The suspect then drove away, but not before the victims provided officers with a description of him and his vehicle.
Detectives investigated leads and later identified 55-year-old Juan Rodriquez-Valzquez of Salida as the suspect. Police say Rodriquez-Valzquez admitted to being the intruder, telling investigators he had seen the woman days earlier, was attracted to her, and followed her home.
Rodriquez-Valzquez was arrested and booked into the Chaffee County Detention Center on charges of second-degree burglary and stalking. He is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
