Chaffee County Women Who Care (CCWWC) is proud to announce that Chaffee County Search and Rescue – South was chosen as the financial award recipient for second quarter 2025. On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, members of CCWWC gathered at Cornerstone Church in Buena Vista to hear funding pitches from three local organizations including Mini-Blessings, SPOT (Salida-area Parks, Open Space and Trails), and Chaffee County Search and Rescue – South.

After each nonprofit representative presented on how CCWWC funding would be used and the potential impact of the group’s support, the CCWWC membership voted.

“The members of Chaffee County Women Who Care did it again,” said Sandy Visnack, CCWWC Steering Committee Member. “We provided a meaningful contribution of $17,300 to an all-volunteer organization who literally saves lives across Chaffee County.”

Chaffee County Search and Rescue – South is a 100% unpaid volunteer organization serving the southern portion of Chaffee County. Members have one thing in common, a desire to help others who are lost or hurt in the backcountry. Since they raise all of their funding through the solicitation of donations from the public and fundraisers like the annual Angel of Shavano Car Show, the contribution from CCWWC will make a significant impact. Funds will go to purchasing uniforms, backcountry equipment, and training for volunteers.

The next meeting of Chaffee County Women Who Care will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at A Church in Salida. CCWWC members will hear presentations from Ark Valley Humane Society, New Bees, and Salida Montessori Charter School.

Call for members! Chaffee County Women Who Care encourages women across Chaffee County to join the organization. “Currently, we have grown to 173 caring members, but there is always room for more,” Says Visnack. “Collectively, we make a huge impact and welcome new members any time of the year. If you would like to attend the next meeting as a guest, just come on out to our October 14th meeting in Salida. We would love to have you.” To join Chaffee County Women Who Care or for more information, visit this link or find us on Instagram or Facebook.
