Chaffee County residents are invited to attend two free “Act Against Wildfire” open houses in May to learn how to better protect their homes, families, and property from the growing risk of wildfires.

Hosted by members of the Chaffee Forest Health Council, the events will feature forestry professionals, firefighters, and emergency managers who will share information on the county’s wildfire preparedness efforts. Attendees will learn how the Chaffee County Community Wildfire Protection Plan works to reduce the risk and impacts of fire—and how residents can take action.

Topics include creating defensible space around your home, signing up for emergency alerts, understanding upcoming forest treatment projects, and tips for wildfire season readiness.

Representatives from the U.S. Forest Service, Colorado State Forest Service, Salida Fire Department, Chaffee County Office of Emergency Management, local electric utilities, and other agencies will be available to answer questions and provide resources.

Attendees can also enter to win a free slash trailer rental from Chaffee Fire, valued at $100.
