
George Edward Hinman, age 85 of Salida, had the privilege of passing into our Lord’s hands on March 3, 2025. He was born June 8, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA to Robert Edward and Irene Mabel (Dory) Hinman. He was married to Estrella Frances (Rodriguez Vargas) Hinman in Redding 3 months after meeting her Christmas Day of 1967, On March 9, 1968. Only knowing English himself, and her only Spanish, their love grew into a family. His journey from LA to Redding, California was then completed in Salida, CO. George enjoyed the classics of the car world. Upon meeting renowned race car designer Carroll Shelby, his fascination with cars grew into his passion. He drove in time-trial races and restored vintage automobiles. For employment, he drove Greyhound busses for 14 years, traveling up and down the Pacific corridor.
He purchased his own big rig and continued his driving career, traveling throughout the US and Canada specializing in difficult, complex loads. George’s time in Salida included maintaining the Salida Hot Springs Pool and driving for the Salida School District. Mr. Hinman is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Estrella F. Hinman, son George Edward Hinman Jr., daughter Anne Marie (Hinman) Fontana. Brother Patrick Joseph Hinman, grandsons James John Fontana IV, Jakob Randlett Hinman, John Robert Fontana and Isaac Randlett Hinman. He will be remembered for his honest and simple ways.
