A federal judge has altered a plea agreement for Return to Nature funeral home co-owners Jon and Carrie Hallford. While Jon Hallford accepted the new terms, Carrie Hallford rejected them, meaning her federal case will proceed to trial.
In October, both agreed to plead guilty to one count of wire fraud, with a sentencing range of 78 months to 15 years. However, last week, the judge ruled that the original sentencing range would not be honored, giving them two options:
- Accept a revised plea deal allowing for a tougher sentence.
- Withdraw the plea and go to trial.
While Jon Hallford agreed to the new terms, Carrie Hallford did not, and her trial date has not yet been set.
