David Allen Savoren, 75, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Health on February 4, 2025, in Leadville, Colorado.
Savoren was born September 9, 1949, to Matt Savoren and Katherine Mohar in Salida, Colorado. Savoren was raised in Leadville, graduating from Lake County High School in 1967. His fondest memories in his youth came from the occasions he was able to accompany Frank Klune to the beautiful locations surrounding Leadville where photographs were taken. Following graduation Savoren enlisted in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS De Haven, a Naval Destroyer, and was Honorably Discharged at the conclusion of his 4-year enlistment.
am at the Elks lodge in Leadville. A lunch will follow to celebrate David’s life.
Dave will be missed by anyone who has ever met him. He was always fun to be around, had an infectious laugh, and his stories of life experiences he shared will not be forgotten.
Savoren returned to Leadville and married Debra McCarty in 1973. Together they raised their two children in Leadville while living their lives as so many Leadvillites have–camping, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the surrounding mountains getting outdoors as often as possible. He always found the time on Sunday to take in the Broncos game and hardly missed a Rockies game even if from the radio while out in the woods. There was never a thought of the Savorens living anywhere else but Leadville, had many friends, genuinely loved each other and their way of life while living their entire lives in the community that both families were so deeply rooted in.
Dave was a 51-year lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and, for many years, was very active in the lodge. He held multiple officer positions, named Elk of the Year, and contributed to great work the Elks does locally through charity serving as a Trustee.
Savoren attended Colorado Mountain College for a short time, went to work as an autobody technician for a few years, but moved on going on to work as an Underground Miner at Climax. The Climax Mine ceased production in the Mid-80s, Savoren was laid off with the majority of the county workforce, but he continued to work as a miner at the Diamond Mine. He was able to return to Climax as a Pond Technician where he treated and maintained the quality and cleanliness of all water discharged from Climax Properties until 1996.
Savoren ended his working life in 2017 after 10 years supervising the Grounds and Facilities Department at St. Vincent General Hospital.
Savoren is preceded in death by his wife Debra, parents Matt Savoren and Katherine Mohar, brother Matt, sister Sandra, and brother-in-laws James and Donald McCarty.
Savoren is survived by daughter Jennifer (Mark) Wadsworth, son David Savoren. He leaves behind grandchildren Peleg Matthew (Abigail) Wadsworth, Morgan Wadsworth, Elizabeth Savoren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank St. Vincent Health, especially the nursing staff for the wonderful care they provided David till his time of death.
