Notice of Onsite Blasting Activity
Construction of Browns Canyon National Monument road widening continues on County Road 300 at Mile Marker 2.2 which traverses Sugarloaf Mountain adjacent to the Arkansas River near Ruby Mountain Campground.
FHWA and contracting partner, Cooley & Sons Excavating, Inc. continue construction to widen a section of roadway on County Road 300 near mile marker 2.2 that traverses the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain (locally known as “Narrows”) adjacent to the Arkansas River.
Improvements
include: import and placement of aggregate surfacing, and installation of signs and delineator posts. Blasting activities are scheduled beginning January 24, 2025 and continuing until project completion. Project completion is scheduled for April 2025.
Travel Impacts
Full Road Closure
County Road 300 near Mile Marker 2.2, is closed as a result of unstable slope conditions and rockfall hazards beginning November 11, 2024, and continuing through project completion. No Public Access or Thru Traffic is permitted. Dates of scheduled closures are subject to change.
River Closures
Public water users can expect full-closure of the Arkansas River for a distance of 1500’ upriver and 1500’ downriver from Browns Canyon construction site beginning October 9, 2024 and continuing until project completion as a result of unstable slope conditions encountered during construction. Arkansas River is closed to pubic water users from Fisherman’s Bridge continuing Southeast to Ruby Mountain Campground. No Public Access or Traffic. Dates and times of scheduled closures are subject to change.
