Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is facing a shortage of IV fluids due to the flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, which has disrupted the supply chain. The floodwaters significantly damaged Baxter Pharmaceuticals‘ manufacturing plant in North Carolina, the hospital’s primary supplier of IV fluids.

The facility is expected to remain non-operational until the end of the year, leading the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to declare a nationwide shortage of these essential medical supplies.

In response, the hospital has implemented conservation measures, including rescheduling certain non-urgent and elective procedures that require substantial IV fluid use, to manage the shortage effectively.
