Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza, the truck driver who pleaded guilty to causing a fatal crash earlier this summer on Highway 285 near Bailey, will face sentencing tomorrow. Cruz-Mendoza will receive a maximum of one year in jail for his role in the accident that claimed the life of Scott Miller.
The tragic incident occurred when Cruz-Mendoza’s semi-truck slammed into Miller’s car, causing a load of pipes to spill onto the vehicle. Despite the severity of the crash, Cruz-Mendoza was charged only with misdemeanor traffic violations, including one count of careless driving resulting in death and three counts of careless driving resulting in injury.
