Jon and Carie Hallford, co-owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, were back in court yesterday as they requested more time to consider a plea deal. The Hallfords are facing over 200 charges related to the improper storage of 190 decomposing bodies, along with alleged money laundering, theft, and forgery.
The state has proposed plea deals in which Jon Hallford would serve 20 years in prison, while Carie Hallford would receive a sentence of 15-20 years. The judge has set a final arraignment date of September 20th, by which the Hallfords must either accept the plea deals or proceed to set trial dates.
