The donkeys are once again roaming free in Cripple Creek. Every Memorial Day, these loveable city mascots are given free rein to explore the “greener pastures” of city lawns and gardens in Cripple Creek. According to the Two Mile High Club, the nonprofit organization that cares for the donkeys, most residents warmly welcome them into their neighborhoods.
The donkey herd has been a part of Cripple Creek history since 1901 when they were released from working in the mines. The Two Mile High Club, formed in 1931, continues to care for these iconic animals, preserving a cherished tradition in the community.
