Charles Douglas Ward, of Buena Vista, Colorado formerly of Pueblo was born in Van Alstyne, Texas, on October 10, 1933. He passed away February 26, 2024, at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marybeth; his Daughters: Suzanne (Darrell) Miller and Rebecca (Norman) Cooling; and his grandsons: Caleb Miller and Logan Miller, and his grand-daughter, Michal LeBaron (Heber) and great grand-daughter, Rayny LeBaron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Rhoda Ward, and also six brothers and three sisters. After the death of Alex, the rest of the family moved to Pueblo in 1939.
Charles attended Central Grade School, Keating Jr. High, and graduated from Central High School, class of 1952. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving one year in Korea, as an Aerial Photo Interpreter with the 1st Marine Division Headquarters, Enemy Intelligence Division. He served three years and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion and a candidate for the Korean War Ambassador for Peace Award.
He graduated from Pueblo Junior College with an AA Degree, then attended one year at CU in Boulder, and graduated from Adams State College, Alamosa, Colorado, with a BA Degree in Secondary Public Education. He taught mathematics in Pueblo, District 60, for ten years, mainly at Centennial High School. He, then, was hired out as an employee of the Colorado and Wyoming Railroad, within the Colorado Fuel and Iron Plant. He was a railroad engineer and retired after 30 years of service.
Doug enjoyed the outdoors and was a good steward of the land. He was a craftsman, building art objects and furniture out of local natural materials. He built several homes in his lifetime. He played the guitar and enjoyed group jam sessions and singing. He loved country western music, hymns, and blue-grass and classical music. His gardens were beautiful and big every summer, and his yard always looked pristine. He loved his family deeply both his immediate and his extended family.
Services will be in Buena Vista at the Mountain View Church of Christ, 16310 County Road 306 on March 16th at 11 am., with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Ritual Team.
