Carie Hallford, one of the owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Home, is now being held at the El Paso County Jail. She arrived there Tuesday, Nov. 21st.
Carie and her husband Jon are facing charges of abuse of a corpse, theft, money laundering, and forgery after almost 200 bodies were found improperly stored at their Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose. The Hallfords were arrested November 9th in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
In addition to improperly storing bodies, several families that used the Return to Nature Funeral Home believe they received concrete mix instead of their loved one’s ashes.
A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Hallfords.
The property is currently being cleaned up by the EPA with plans to demolish the building.
