Chaffee County Public Health officials have confirmed the county’s first case of West Nile virus. A second suspect case has also been reported.
Counties surrounding Chaffee have also had confirmed cases of West Nile.
You can reduce your risk of contracting the West Nile virus by using insect repellents when you go outdoors. Other tips to protect yourself include dressing in clothing that covers arms and legs, limit outdoor activities at dusk and dawn, and eliminate standing water around your home.
