A suspect in a Canon City homicide that occurred on the night of January 6th has been arrested.
36-year-old Joseph Tippet was taken into custody in Salida Friday night by the Colorado State Patrol. He was transported to the Fremont County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $1 million bond.
According to KKTV, Tippet told police that on Jan. 6th, he got into a physical fight with his wife and then started drinking which made the situation worse. During the altercation, Tippet’s father, identified as William Tippet, was reportedly sleeping. Joseph shot his father twice with a .45 caliber handgun and then left for a liquor store to purchase some bourbon.
Tippet has been charged with one count of first-degree homicide. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
