A backcountry skier died in an avalanche over the weekend near Steamboat Springs.
The Routt County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the avalanche involved two skiers. The skier who survived performed CPR on the unconscious skier for about an hour before Search and Rescue arrived.
This was the sixth avalanche death of the season in Colorado.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is rating the avalanche danger across the state as moderate.
