Hungry bears are beginning their annual feeding binge to fatten up for winter.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is warning Coloradans to guard against leaving food where it can attract bears and cause interactions with humans.

Bears have entered into a period when they spend up to 20 hours a day trying to consume more than 20,000 calories daily in preparation for winter hibernation. And it isn’t just your trash cans that you need to worry about.

In the past week, a bear broke into eight cars near Estes Park. Another broke into a resort hotel four nights in a row. CPW even has video footage of a bear standing on its hind legs, unlatching the door to a pickup truck, pulling out an ice chest to use as a stool, climbing up and grabbing a food bag.
