Governor Jared Polis has announced how he will spend just over $1.6 billion in federal coronavirus aid.
More than half will be directed to the state’s schools, colleges and universities.
$500 million is slated to be transferred to local K-12 school districts and $450 million is earmarked for higher education.
The governor is directing $275 million of the aid to local governments, some of which have been forced to furlough workers because of reduced tax revenues.
Another $205 million will be set aside for the state’s response to the pandemic, including payroll to cover the cost of public safety, health care and human services workers.
