With the arctic air mass in place, dangerously cold temperatures will linger in the region through tomorrow. Wind chills will be as low as 40 below.
Winds will be gusting to 30 mph in the valley, 50 mph in the higher elevations.
This system will be out of the area by the weekend. Saturday and Sunday look to be mostly sunny with a high near 50 in the valley on Christmas Day. The mountains will hang on to a slight chance of light snow through the weekend.
Salida and Buena Vista can expect a high of 29. Look for an overnight low of 15.
The San Luis Valley will see a high of 25, a low of 7.
Leadville and Fairplay will warm up to 7 with a low of -5.
