Authorities in Chaffee County say the search for missing Salida resident Kaden Sites remains active, though the intensity of operations will begin to taper in the coming days.
Chaffee County Sheriff Andy Rohrich provided an update, noting that search crews have already covered more than 3,000 linear miles in their efforts to locate Sites. Despite the extensive ground covered, no confirmed leads have been announced.
Sites has been missing since last Wednesday after failing to return from a hunting trip in the Mount Shavano area. His vehicle was later discovered near the Blanks Cabin Trailhead, which has since become a focal point for search operations.
Kaden Sites is described as a 6-foot-2, 160-pound white male with light brown hair, along with a goatee and mustache. At the time he was last seen, he was wearing a hoodie, ripped khaki pants, and hiking boots.
Officials say they are no longer asking community members to stay out of the search area, but they are urging anyone who chooses to enter the region to prioritize safety. Recommendations include wearing bright, visible clothing, avoiding solo travel, informing others of planned routes, and carrying sufficient food, water, and communication or tracking devices.
Search and Rescue teams, along with trained volunteers, continue to work in the area. Authorities are reminding the public to remain alert and mindful of ongoing operations.
