Red Flag Fire Warning for Wednesday, October 21

A Red Flag Fire Warning is in effect today due to dry fuels, low humidity, and gusty winds.

Winds will be gusting to 50 mph out of the west.

A Red Flag Fire Warning means that critical fire weather conditions exist that could lead to the rapid ignition and spread of wildfire.

Salida and Buena Vista can expect a high of 77, an overnight low of 41.

The San Luis Valley will see a high of 71, a low of 33.

Leadville and Fairplay will warm up to 61 with a low of 31.

Unincorporated Chaffee County, Fremont County and all BLM lands in our area are under Stage 2 fire restrictions.

Stage 2 Restrictions prohibit all open burning of any kind including charcoal grills, fireworks and exploding targets.  Only fires that are controlled with a valve, like propane grills, are allowed.

All residents and visitors are reminded to exercise extreme caution when enjoying any outdoor activity as low moisture and high winds have created very high fire danger.
